About Mrs. Spilman
My name is Elsie Spilman. This is my twelfth year teaching at Mid-Prairie Middle School. I grew up in Sioux City, IA, and then went to the University of Iowa. I graduated from U of I with a degree in Mathematics and Psychology. I worked in a psychology lab at the University of Iowa for six years. During that time I went back to school to get my teaching certificate. After I completed my student teaching, I was lucky enough to be hired at Mid-Prairie to teach seventh grade math. I received my master's degree from Drake University in the area of Teacher Effectiveness and Professional Development, with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented education. I am currently working on a master's degree in math education from the University of Northern Iowa.
My husband, Josh, and I have two beautiful children. When I am not doing my own school work, or working, I love to spend time with my son and step-daughter. He is in 4th grade this year and has more energy than I ever had. She is a coaching dance and cheerleading at Lisbon. I also enjoy reading, watching TV, and knitting.
